Story about "Hachi"

Hachi, a Japanese Akita dog, was born in 1923 at Odate City, Akita Prefecture.  He was adopted by Mr. Eisaburou Ueno in 1924, who lived in Shibuya and was a Professor at the Tokyo University.

Each day Hachi waited for his master at Shibuya Railway Station, even after Professor Ueno suddenly passed away at the University in 1925.

Hachi became famous all over Japan, after the Asahi Newspaper reported his continued faithfulness to the late master, then people started to call him "Hachi-kou" putting an honorable suffix to his name. Through donation, included by numbers of school children who loved Hachi-kou, the statue of Hachi-kou was built in 1934 in front of Shibuya Station, which was one year before Hachi died at the Station.

Hachi became famous world-widely through the remade US movie "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" starring Richard Gere in 2009.
